Pastoral care

At Ashville we want every child to feel cared for, encouraged and valued within a happy and purposeful environment.

We pride ourselves on excellent pastoral care. Staff do everything possible to ensure that children settle quickly and happily. The diversity of our pupils is celebrated and every pupil is given the chance to shine during their time here. Although all staff are involved in pastoral care, Class Teachers in Prep School and Form Tutors in Senior School and Sixth Form have daily contact and responsibility.

Small class sizes are maintained and as a result, Class Teachers and Form Tutors get to know the pupils in their care very quickly. Time is set aside to discuss and monitor progress. An open door policy is at the heart of our pastoral care approach and pupils are encouraged to share their concerns and ask for help.

Parents are encouraged to contact Class Teachers or Form Tutors if there are concerns. This care continues through to the Head of Acorns Early Years, Head of Prep School, Head of Lower School, Head of Upper School, Head of Sixth Form, and is overseen by members of the School Leadership Team (SLT) and the Deputy Head: Safeguarding, Wellbeing and Personal Development. Formal contact includes Parents’ Evenings, reports and regular email communication to ensure that we are truly holistic in the way that we support our pupils, and their families.

In addition to teachers, pastoral care is also provided by the College Chaplain, as well as the ‘Green Ties’ in Lower School and Upper Sixth liaison prefects who take on the role to support and guide younger pupils throughout the College.
