Learning support
At Ashville we are committed to providing an inclusive education, where individuals are valued wherever their talents lie.
Our dedicated Learning Support department works with staff members, parents and individual pupils to ensure that all pupils, whether in the Prep School, Senior School or Sixth Form, are able to reach their full potential, regardless of disability or learning difficulty.
The department supports a whole host of additional needs, including dyslexia, dyspraxia, high functioning autism, auditory processing difficulties, attention difficulties, and pupils with lower levels of numeracy and literacy. Specialist teaching staff work with other teachers across the College to provide tailored, age-appropriate support and valuable continuity to pupils with additional needs as they progress through their learning journey.
Learning support is not just about strategies to help pupils learn; it’s also a friendly, supportive and caring environment in which pupils can progress, not just academically but personally and socially. Many choose to spend their free time within the department, socialising and meeting with other pupils and engaging in fun activities as part of our dedicated lunchtime clubs.
The department offers:
- dedicated rooms that operate an open door policy
- a variety of support that suits the individual pupil, including one-to-one lessons, in-class support, intervention and support groups, and a drop-in service
- support for all pupils, including those without a formal diagnosis or assessment of a condition. This is useful for those who need additional support, such as with Maths, English or study skills.
