The Campus Masterplan

OUR CAMPUS, Reimagined FOR THE FUTURE

Multi-million-pound investment at Ashville.

As part of our ambition to develop the “new” Ashville, the Governors, and the school’s senior leaders, have been working with architects and planners on a Campus Masterplan to guide our investment in developments for the future. Phase 1 and Phase 2 are now complete which have created three Learning Hubs, the substantial restructuring and refurbishment of the Sixth Form Centre and more. The pioneering and ambitious spirit which has seen Ashville flourish for its first 150 years inspires us to be creative and innovative for the next stage of its life. Careful management of the opportunities provided by the cessation of boarding, together with accompanying judicious use of resources, will allow us to greatly enhance the facilities we can offer our pupils. Our broad aims are to amplify the opportunities for all our pupils in every aspect of their school experience and in so doing increase the attractiveness of Ashville to current and future pupils and their parents.

PHASE 1 - COMPLETED 2024

Phase One of our Campus Masterplan saw the creation of Learning Hubs for GCSE pupils in Year 10 and Year 11. These are communal spaces where our senior year groups can study individually, and collectively, as well as socialise and relax. Hubs nurture a strong sense of identity and belonging. They promote academic ambition and emotional wellbeing, as well as a strong sense of connection and maturity.

We also commissioned a refurbishment of the entrance and the arterial reception and stairwell area of our Prep School.

PHASE 2 - COMPLETED 2025

Phase Two saw a substantial restructuring and refurbishment of the Sixth Form Centre. Our aim is to foster excellent learning habits for success at A Level and BTEC as well as preparation for working life beyond school. Our Sixth Form facilities include a café and social area, a collaborative learning space, an ‘academic buzz’ zone, study booths and seminar spaces.

The Learning Hub for Year 7 was created, which now provides clear psychological and social benefits for our youngest Senior School pupils in this important year of transition. Other projects included the refurbishment of the Elmfield classrooms, a new Prep School playground, a covered outdoor recreational space, and an additional Pre-Prep classroom to cater for growing pupil numbers.

PHASE 3 - UNDERWAY

Our 70-acre campus is an iconic and much-loved feature of the school, so our plans will take care to retain that open, spacious atmosphere whilst also delivering significant improvements to sports facilities and safeguarding through improved pedestrian access and parking.

The first element of this project has been to establish a secure perimeter around the site, improving safety and security for the whole College community. The Green Lane entrance has been redesigned into a more visitor-friendly accessible space, with improved pedestrian and cycle routes, as well as access controls.

At the same time, we have commenced a multi-year project of improvements to the Beaumont sports fields, off Yew Tree Lane. These pitches sit on Harrogate clay and in recent years have been prone to flooding: a major investment in drainage means that we will have good grass surfaces to play year-round.

And Beyond 2027… We are currently reviewing options to replace the Bowick building with a new facility at the heart of our campus. This will enable improvements to be made for our STEM provision and in the Performing Arts. It would also provide an opportunity for new adaptable teaching areas and a second dining space.
