PREP curriculum and learning
A Bespoke Curriculum Set for Success

At Ashville, we have curated our own bespoke curriculum enhancing the National Curriculum. As an independent school we can embrace a wider area of study for the benefit of our pupils and provide a range of opportunities for them to apply their learning, catering to each child’s distinct and unique learning needs.

MATHEMATICS AND ENGLISH
Our Prep pupils study English and Maths daily within small classes to build a solid foundation in reading, writing and numerical concepts. Developing communication, critical thinking and problem-solving skills sets the stage for success in these essential subjects.

A Rich AND EXCITING CURRICULUM
Science, History, Geography, Computing, Religious Studies, Music, Physical Education, Drama, Music, Modern Foreign Languages, PSHE (Life Ready), Art and DT enrich the curriculum. Class teachers and specialist teachers enthuse and challenge young and inquiring minds, whilst promoting high levels of attainment and outstanding progress. Alongside developing strong academic skills and knowledge, our key drivers are to nurture well rounded, globally aware, and community-minded young people who grow into confident, responsible citizens.
Spanish is taught from Prep 1 and French is added as a second language in Prep 5 and 6. Lessons focus on speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and are delivered through a range of fun, engaging and challenging activities.

LEARNING IS AN ADVENTURE
Themed days, events, and visiting speakers are woven into the curriculum to engage and inspire your child. Whether it be an Ocean Day or a visit from an Arctic Explorer, these 'wow' moments bring learning to life and encourage pupils to see learning as an adventure.

OUTDOOR LEARNING
All Ashville Prep pupils take part in outdoor lessons in our dedicated outdoor learning area and within the 70-acre campus. They provide the opportunity for a range of practical activities, including undertaking fieldwork and enquiry-based work in the local area.

TECHNOLOGY
Your child will experience the Computing curriculum including robotics, micro:bits and more. Prep 5 and 6 pupils also benefit from personal iPads to enhance their learning and prepare for Ashville Senior School. As a Microsoft 365 School, the iPads provide the opportunity to blend more traditional teaching practices with the use of digital technologies.
