Sixth Form Life
You…
What do you want from your sixth form education? Good academic results? A chance to explore interests such as sports, drama and music? An opportunity to flex your organisational muscles or test your leadership skills? Time to think about what is happening in the world outside the school gates?
We recognise that your final two years of school education should be a combination of all these factors. We accept that academic performance is key to your future – but so is developing your talents, your awareness of other people and your sense of self. In this online prospectus you’ll find a summary of what we can offer to help you develop your full potential.
It’s not all work…
Once you enter Sixth Form, your role as a member of the College will change. It is not just a question of having dedicated facilities and more private study time, you will also take a more central role in the running of the school.
Some of the Sixth Formers are selected as Senior Prefects and play a lead role in the running of the college. Senior Prefects act as roles models to pupils lower down the the school
Sixth Formers provide leadership for their Houses. Some of you may choose to stand as House Captains. If you are elected, you will be responsible for staging inter-house events such as debating, drama and sporting competitions. Alternatively, you may act as a mentor and support to classes in the lower part of the school or help teach the Pre-Prep School children to swim.
When we can, we will give you the chance to get out of College to explore broader horizons. Language students complete ten days work experience abroad and we organise field trips for subjects such as geography and biology.
The Lower Sixth are also key members of our Malawi expeditions. Every two years groups of our students go to Africa to help in an orphanage established by an ex-Ashville teacher. From the comments of students who’ve been there, it’s a life-changing trip.
