The Individual

The School Day | Pastoral Care | Learning Support | Personal, Social and Health Education |

After six years in Junior School, either here at Ashville or elsewhere, it is time to move on.

Secondary education is a very different experience where you will face new and exciting challenges both in and out of the classroom. Between the ages of 11 and 16 you will build your academic career and get involved in sports or pastimes that you will continue to enjoy for the rest of your life. Most importantly, you will learn a lot about yourself.

At Ashville we believe very strongly that everyone can find a niche for themselves. We do everything we can to help you identify your strengths and find that niche. It may be that you are an outstanding student, a gifted performer or a talented sportsperson. You may like taking responsibility and mentoring others, or you may discover that you are good at practical tasks. Whatever your interests, as long as you are committed to doing well, we will give you the chance to shine.

Pastoral Care

Your child will be placed in a Tutor Group under the care of a Form Tutor. Each year is organised by the Year Head, who will give help and support where necessary. The Form Tutors at Ashville keep a watchful eye on the academic progress and social welfare of the children in their care. In addition to this there are regular tutor periods during which any problems of a general nature are dealt with. If your son or daughter has a particular problem, the Form Tutor will be more than happy to help in resolving it.

Each Tutor Group also has one or two Sixth Former Liaison Prefects who work with it. They offer someone else to whom your child may speak about minor concerns or refer to for information.

Learning Support

One of Ashville’s greatest assets is its staff, who make learning an exciting, stimulating experience. As well as getting you through your exams, they want to see you grow into a confident person. Our teachers will give you the time, encouragement and attention you need to do that, and will support your interests in practical ways whenever they can.
