Drama

Ashville offers every student in every year group the opportunity to take part in at least one annual extra-curricular Drama event. We presently run three Drama Clubs for Years 7, 8 and 9; these meet weekly and result in public performance evenings at some stage in the year.  High pupil numbers reflect the enthusiasm for Drama present in Lower School. Senior Drama Productions (which take place in the Soothill Hall and involve years 10 - U6) are an annual event, the emphasis being on giving students the opportunity to develop their performance skills in challenging theatre. We focus on large cast productions to give the maximum number of students the chance to contribute and cast all who audition, making these productions a fully inclusive activity.  Our emphasis is on productions being a learning experience with the process being as important as the final product and involving students regardless of their level of talent.

Students also have the chance to be a member of our technical crew where opportunities for technical accomplishment in lighting and sound are excellent. Drama Colours are awarded to students whose commitment and contribution to the process of production has been positive; not for talent alone. We run an annual House Drama competition with students from every year group having the opportunity to be cast and annual showcase performances of GCSE, AS and A2 practical work.  Regular theatre visits take place for A level and GCSE students as well as the opportunity to take part in a Drama tour of primary schools in the summer term.
