Wider Curriculum

While we have the highest of expectations for our pupils within the classroom, this is only a part of the learning experience that we offer. We believe in providing a breadth of opportunities for our pupils that will give them the best possible foundations to carry forward into the next stage of their education.

An extensive range of extra-curricular activities is provided both during and after school and all pupils are encouraged to participate in at least one of the clubs on offer.

As well as sports, activities involving music, choirs, languages, science and art are provided by members of the College staff, while external coaches are engaged to run other clubs as diverse as karate and rock climbing.

We have a reputation for stunning drama productions and with an auditorium seating in excess of 400, our pupils are able to experience the thrill of performing in front of large audiences. The Soothill Hall is also where our musical concerts take place and it is a big enough venue to enable us to host the HMC Music Day for North East independent junior schools and a choral day for Harrogate primary schools.

As they move up the school, the pupils get to enjoy a residential experience, either in the Yorkshire Dales or across The Channel in Normandy and Paris. A school ski trip also runs every Easter holiday.

We regard ourselves very much as being an integral part of the wider Harrogate community and our pupils are actively engaged in raising funds for local-based charities, such as Martin House, and more global charities such as Open Arms, a Malawian orphanage which is run by a former member of the College staff.

“An outstanding programme of PSHE supports pupils moral and social development strongly. Pupils spiritual, moral and social development are excellent.”

Years 3 – 6 are a time of great change for your children.  You will see them develop very quickly, both academically and socially.

Ashville Junior School fosters a special community, instilling values and standards which are often overlooked in the twenty-first century.  With awareness of each other and society in general, children grow up with confidence within a Christian framework; this is all part of being a Methodist school.
