Music, Drama and The Arts

Music, Drama and The Arts are all crucial dimensions in the breadth of experience that we provide for all our pupils.

In the Junior School, outside of their normal curriculum time, pupils learning individual instruments to whatever standards are given the opportunity to perform in assemblies and formal concerts, as well as joining up with fellow musicians to be a part of the Junior School orchestra.

There is a strong choral tradition at the College. Our Senior (9-11) and Piccolo (7-9) choirs perform regularly within school and at local events such as the Harrogate Festival. We also take our youngsters out of school to sing at a variety of functions within the local community.

Drama is incorporated into our English curriculum and is also offered as a part of our extra curricular programme, with the children working towards LAMDA examinations.

All tutor groups will perform at a school assembly during the year, while the older children take part in a large-scale dramatic production in the summer in the Soothill Hall. Our recent productions have included The Wizard of Oz, Henry The Tudor Dude and Bugsy Malone. Parents are warmly invited to all of our musical and dramatic events.

Junior School pupils have a great opportunity to explore their artistic talents. With excellent teaching, pupils can create all kinds of art work using a wide range of media. As well as curriculum art, pupils can join clubs to further their passion and interest in art and examples of their work are displayed proudly around the school for all to enjoy

The Festival Trophy is our inter-house competition for the arts and is awarded at the final assembly of the year. The children win points for their house throughout the year in a wide range of activities, including art, music, poetry, choral speaking, photography and a general knowledge quiz.

Years 3 – 6 are a time of great change for your children.  You will see them develop very quickly, both academically and socially.

Ashville Junior School fosters a special community, instilling values and standards which are often overlooked in the twenty-first century.  With awareness of each other and society in general, children grow up with confidence within a Christian framework; this is all part of being a Methodist school.
