Looking After Your Child

The welfare of each individual child is at the heart of what we do here at Ashville and all members of the Ashville community work together to ensure the best interests of each child are met.

The Headteacher and Deputy Head consistently implement a warm and caring environment throughout the School, leading by example and supporting teaching and non-teaching staff. Click here for a full list.

The adult with whom a child will have the most contact is their form tutor. Form tutors take an active role in consistently encouraging good pupil behaviour from their class and all children, both in lessons and around school. With small class sizes ranging from 16-20 children, a form tutor is able to build up a strong 1:1 relationship with every pupil, helping them to develop both socially and academically. Teachers have high expectations of children with regard to behaviour and they strive to ensure that all children behave in an exemplary manner.

When joining the College, a child will be assigned to one of our four competitive houses: Duckworth, Ellis, Riverdale and Windermere. A strong affinity to a House is encouraged through our rewards system of house points for the weekly Star Trophy and through healthy inter-house competition for the annual Rigg Cup (sports) and Festival Trophy (arts).

The Junior School Council has been a feature of our school for several years. Pupils are elected to sit on the council by their peers and class representatives will bring the ideas and concerns of their class mates to fortnightly meetings.

Junior boarders are housed in Greenholme House, our co-educational 8-13 junior boarding facility, which is run by Mr. Dewhirst, one of our Junior School teachers.

As a Methodist Foundation school, the College has its own chaplain, who looks after the spiritual welfare of all members of the College community.

The College sanitorium is staffed throughout the school day to look after any of your child’s medical requirements.

“The pupil’s personal development is outstanding throughout the college, founded on comprehensive and individual pastoral care, and by the positive, supportive Christian family ethos.”

Years 3 – 6 are a time of great change for your children.  You will see them develop very quickly, both academically and socially.

Ashville Junior School fosters a special community, instilling values and standards which are often overlooked in the twenty-first century.  With awareness of each other and society in general, children grow up with confidence within a Christian framework; this is all part of being a Methodist school.
