Newly elected MP & OA to present prizes at Speech Day

Julian Sturdy was a pupil at Ashville College from 1981 to 1989 and later attended Harper Adams University. He is a working farmer and lives in Tockwith with his wife and two children. In this year’s elections he became a Conservtive MP for York Outer, winning the hotly-contested new seat with a majority of almost 3,700. The MP said of his return to Ashville for its Speech Day: “I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Ashville and my years there helped shape me into being the person I am today. The school’s reputation grows year by year and continues to turn out high-achieving, well-rounded individuals that are ready for the big, wide world.

Speech Day will be held on Friday 2nd July 2010 at 7.00pm at the Harrogate International Centre.
Competition Winners Plant New Trees At Ashville

Three pupils from the Junior School have won the chance to plant some new trees in the grounds of the school. Sasha Rose-Cooke, Year 6, Hannah Brown, Year 4 and Will Blackmore, Year 3 produced the winning designs in an environmental poster competition. The trees - two oaks and one sycamore - were kindly donated by Keith Hartland, who came along to the tree planting ceremony. He was also joined by Laura Cook from the group Action in Methodist Schools. The competition was an opportunity for the pupils to think about the environment and the many environmental issues we face.
The Ashville Adventure

Ashville Gains the Top Spot

GCSE and A Level League tables were published this week showing an excellent set of results for Ashville college at both A-level and GCSE.

The Telegraph placed Ashville 3rd in the North of England and 73rd in the Country for the quality of its GCSE results. These were the best of any school in North Yorkshire performing ahead of all independent and state schools, whether selective or not, in the region.

The government league tables, which take into account average results and the fact that all students received five GCSEs at grade A* -C, placed Ashville first in North Yorkshire.
